reached London

well made it as far as London..very slowly due to roadworks, the good thing is that the roadworks make the car go so slowly that i got 58 miles to the gallon.

it is dark and wet here

staying in the new holiday inn express even nearer the house than the usual one i stay in at Brent cross..it was either that or sharing with a grand child and i need all my strength for the trek.

we are about to have a carry out Chinese meal delivered, yum yum crispy seaweed.

Granddaughter Esther has started a blog this very minute http://storyofanelf.blogspot.com/

i am told it gets coldish in the afternoon in the canyon.layers of clothing is the answer. i may have to repack :-)

going off to trek

packed and ready to go, it is all in the car .…an overnight bag for the two nights in London, a small carry on bag for the plane, a larger suitcase containing a backpack full of trek things and a small bag with?my sleeping bag?etc?.,? and even my sandwiches? for the journey are in the car as it is literally freezing cold outside tonight so they are just as well there as in my fridge.

i am covered in fake tan so i don’t look too? ‘peely wally’ amongst all the toned and tanned American lawyers. “oh vanity thy name is woman”.……

i have given him upstairs the left over food for the dogs.

made up the? spare bed for House sitting Claire and her husband.

tried to pay a bill for the broken glass? which i finally go fixed? after all these months.…the door i put my head through all those months ago.……but he hadn’t made up the bill yet so i told him i was skipping the country to avoid paying it. .…..he said he would wait.

it is now nearly one o clock in the morning so i suppose i should go to bed,? 400 miles to drive tomorrow.

Basil’s stone setting

Quiet reigns.….…grandchildren off to visit Edinburgh.

photo is Abigail and the girls playing the piano in the morning before the stone setting.

Yesterday was an emotionally exhausting day, there were about 50 people at the service and i remembered how Basil loved to count the people at things , I know he would have been pleased by the turnout for him. the service was fairly short and then most of the people came back to the house for food there was almost a party atmosphere by then, those that hadn’t been watching the changes I had made to the house were ‚I think, favourably impressed. while it was a sad day it was also a good day and felt like a party for Basil especially the grandchildren and great-nieces were livening things up.….there is a lot of food left, ?Nathan helping with the leftovers,I have to get it all eaten by Thursday when i drive south on the first leg of the great Grand Canyon challenge.

on closure

couldn’t put it off any more so i have got all the food for Sunday.a lot of people will come back to the house after the consecration of basil’s headstone? so i have enough food for about 40, it? was? very difficult? as my heart was not in it, i usually love? catering for large groups, it is the only time i like cooking..but it will be? lovely that all daughters and sons in law and 7 grandchildren? and several great-nieces? will? fill the house. i have all the beds ready, there will be bodies dossing down in all corners.

somebody said recently that it would be ’ closure’.daft thing to say , i don’t want closure, he was my husband and i loved him and? am happy to go on thinking about him, i am getting on with my life? but? have no wish to forget about such a big part of it.

i bought pyjamas? today to wear in my sleeping bag.haven’t worn pyjamas since i was 10.

had fun today ‚? Esther .younger granddaughter is off school ill? so she and i played parallel games on addicting games .com? we were on the phone for about an hour and a half, it was an updated version of pacman.….…think i will have another go now, its only half past midnight.…bye bye

more logs

had an excellent day today, Clair came in for coffee and to collect keys as i will have left just before she arrives.

the gardener turned up with lots of logs for my fire and a jar of quince jelly made from some of the quinces i let him have.

the rest of the day went on the same positive note and i am now watching ’ Bride and Prejudice ’ a Bollywood version of pride and prejudice.it is good
