I used to go on the Danish DFDS Line from Newcastle to Esbjerg in Denmark when I wanted to travel between Scotland and Northern Germany but they no longer operate it. They do Harwich to Esbjerg though, that would save a lot of driving on your furniture delivery. It's an overnight sailing leaving at 18:00 so with an early start, not too bad a drive down from Glasgow, crossing over to the east coast via Scotch Corner and down the A1 and M11. I'm sure ferry prices go right down in September to about half the Summer rates. DFDS cabin accommodation is very good and the higher cost of the crossing, compared with a channel crossing, is offset by the lower fuel costs, no overnight stops in a hotel etc. Bon Voyage anyway!
