OMG.. y'all lower the coffins into the ground??? All a pallbearer does here in the USA is to carry the coffin into and outta the church.. and then.. back to the hearse.. from there.. to the gravesite.. but.. it's the folks who work at the graveyards duty to put the coffin in the ground. Yes.. I feel for your grandson.. what a chore.. Suppose.. there is something to knowing she's at peace..

Fiona, That does sound both a sad and a wonderful funeral. And my brother aged 14 held one of the strong straps when our grandfather died - ages ago. I did always like Mrs Vissochi and still remember her! What bright colour did you wear? Fjona

God bless, Fiona. Your grandson must have felt very honored to be chosen as a pall bearer, helping his grandmother in the last step of her earthly journey. How thoughtful but not surprising that Mrs. V would ask that people wear bright colors, that you should celebrate her life rather than mourn her passing.

Mrs. V was a lovely lady, and she left a lovely footprint. Rejoice!
